Hong Kong is a restaurant mecca. Different types of Asian cuisine are plentiful, obviously, but there are plenty of non-Asian choices as well. You can even find a good steak. How about a good steak done right and paired with fine wine? And what about enjoying it all in an intimate and cozy atmosphere? La Pampa Argentinian Steak House is a restaurant that meets all the criteria!
La Pampa is a quiet restaurant on Hong Kong Island in the Mid-Levels neighborhood, tucked away from the main restaurant and bar scene. However, you're also not far from where it's more boisterous and lively.
Whenever we go (and we have been more than a handful of times...that's how much we like it!), we are often there around 6-7pm and are one of the first diners there. In Hong Kong, that's considered early dining! Usually, by the time we are paying the bill, that is when more people are coming in!
They have an extensive wine menu, but a favorite we enjoy there is their Finca La Linda Malbec. (And for those of you who know me, yes, that is my glass, but no, I never drink the whole thing...) 😉
While you are deciding on what to order, a server will bring by a basket of fresh warm bread. And then the best part?
You each get a little toothpick skewer with a couple pieces of grilled tenderloin! If that doesn't convince you to order steak, I don't know what does! And besides, you're not at La Pampa for the vegetables! That being said, they do offer chicken, lamb, and fish on their menu, as well as other Argentine specialties. But us? We go for the steak.
To share amongst the four of us, we often order the Parrilla Mixta, 700g of both a beef tenderloin and beef sirloin steak. Grilled to a perfect medium, it is quite impressive when they bring the platter to the table, giant knife and all. All their steaks are grass-fed and flown in from Argentina, and if there's one thing they know in Argentina, it's their beef.
We always order a side of vegetables, and the boys always like having fries, too.
We divvy up the steaks and the veggies and we've got a really nice meal. We consider La Pampa the perfect place to go for a special occasion since it's not exactly a cheap hole-in-the-wall kind of meal. Of course, there are quite a few special occasions during the year...Father's Day, birthdays, straight A's... 😉
If you want to go enjoy a nice steak with some fine wine in a relaxing atmosphere, give La Pampa a try. It's a perfect restaurant for date night, a celebratory dinner, or a meal out with friends. Regardless of the occasion, I guarantee that if you like steak, you will really enjoy it here.
