JUMP TO RECIPE

This chocolate peppermint tea latte wins on taste and comfort! All you need are three ingredients and it doesn't take long to make! You're going to love every sip of this luxurious tea!

Only 3 Ingredients

  • Milk (or non-dairy milk of your choice)
  • Chocolate (do not use chocolate chips)
  • Peppermint tea bags
A glass measuring cup containing milk, tea bags, and a square piece of chocolate with the word Ghirardelli on it.

How To Make It

Chop the chocolate into fine pieces for easier melting. Set aside. Add milk to a pot and heat over medium heat.

A white round bowl containing finely chopped chocolate.
Milk in a metal pot.

Heat the milkuntil it just begins to steam. Don't allow it to come to a boil.

Tea bags in milk in a metal pot.
A metal pot with the lid on and tea bag strings hanging over the edge.

Remove the pot from the heat and add the peppermint tea bags, keeping the strings hanging over the edge of the pot for easy removal later. Place a lid on top of the pot, leaving it slightly ajar and let the tea bags steep for about 10 minutes.

A spoon removing tea bags from a pot containing milk.
Chopped chocolate being added to milk in a metal pot.

Remove the tea bags and return the pot to the stove over medium heat. Add in the chopped chocolate and stir with a whisk until melted.

A metal whisk stirring a light brown liquid in a metal pot.
A metal coiled tool over frothy light brown liquid in a metal pot.

Whisk it rapidly to create a foam, if desired, or use a milk frother to get a lot of foam! Pour into a cup and serve immediately.

How To Enjoy It

This chocolate peppermint tea latte is already a deliciously luscious drink as it is, but you can fancy it up a bit with some fresh whipped cream on top or a sprinkling of cocoa!

A white and green mug containing a frothy beverage dusted with cocoa powder, next to chocolate chip cookies and chocolate pieces.

And while you're sipping on your tea latte, pair it with an Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie, Chewy Butter Mochi Bites, Gluten-Free Super Moist Banana Bread, Gluten-Free Bacon Cheddar Scallion Scones...or how about a slice of Creamy Crustless Cheesecake??

Recipe Variations

A frothy beverage being poured into a white and green mug.

Dairy-Free Option: This recipe works with a nut milk or non-dairy based milk. If the foamy factor is important, use a high fat non-dairy milk. Also, look for non-dairy chocolate (Guittard Bittersweet Chocolate is a nice non-dairy option).

Peppermint Flavor: I used 3 tea bags, but you can adjust that up or down according to your own taste. You can also add a couple drops of peppermint extract or peppermint syrup for a stronger flavor!

Chocolate: I used 60% dark chocolate which is a nice balance of not being too sweet nor too bitter, but feel free to use whatever grade suits your taste. A lower percentage chocolate will make the tea sweeter; a darker chocolate will make it less sweet and slightly more bitter.

Peppermint Hot Chocolate: Double the chocolate in the recipe and turn this chocolate peppermint tea latte into a peppermint hot chocolate!

A metal spoon in a white and green mug containing a brown frothy beverage.

I'm a big fan of teas that are milk-based, and if you are, too, be sure to take a look at my recipes for Yummy Cuppa English Tea Latte, Ginger Milk Tea Latte, Iced Matcha Tea Latte. They're all delicious in their own right!

You are going to love this deliciously cozy drink. It's a fancier spin on just regular peppermint tea and is sure to satisfy when you need a peppermint chocolate fix!

Prep Time: 0 minutes minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes minutes
Steep: 5 minutes minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes minutes
Makes: 1 serving

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups whole milk, or almond milk or nut milk for dairy free
  • 3 peppermint tea bags
  • 10 grams 60% bittersweet chocolate squares

Equipment

  • Stainless Steel Wire Whisks
  • Electric Milk Frother

Instructions

  • Chop chocolate into fine pieces. Set aside.
  • Heat milk in a pot over medium heat until milk begins to steam, stirring frequently. Do not allow to boil.
  • Remove pot from heat and add tea bags. Cover the pot, leaving the lid slightly ajar and let the tea bags steep for 10 minutes.
  • Gently squeeze tea bags and remove from the milk. Place the pot of milk back on stove over medium heat.
  • Add chopped chocolate to the hot milk.
  • Stir chocolate with a whisk until chocolate is completely melted. Remove from heat.
  • Whisk rapidly to create a foam or use a milk frother to create a lot of foam! Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a non-dairy milk option, use a nut milk like almond milk or coconut milk.
    • A good non-dairy chocolate option is Guittard Bittersweet Chocolate.
  • I found 60% dark chocolate complemented the peppermint tea the best. However, feel free to use whatever grade of chocolate you prefer. Darker chocolate will make the tea less sweet.
  • Double the amount of chocolate to make a peppermint hot chocolate!
  • I advise against using chocolate chips because of the emulsifiers often found in them...hey don't melt as easily and don't blend as well into the tea.
  • Adjust the number of peppermint tea bags depending on the strength of peppermint flavor and your personal taste.
  • Add a drop or two of peppermint extract or peppermint syrup to up the peppermint taste.
  • For a fancy touch, top with whipped cream or a dusting of cocoa.

I wanted to make this, it sounded SO good, but I didn’t have all the ingredients. I did have fresh mint growing. So I eye balled an amount to steep in the milk and it turned out great! Sadly I had no actual chocolate either lol, but I did have cacao powder, so I added that with a tiny sliver of good yellow butter to make up for the lost cocoa butter. All in all I think this drink turned out really good! I’ll definitely follow the correct ingredients next time, but either way, this hit the spot and is a keeper ☺️🙌

Thank you for the recipe. It tastes good. I used semi- sweet chocolate but it wasn’t sweet enough. I added sweetener to mine.

This was so good! I did double the chocolate, and my semisweet chocolate chips blended in nicely with my milk frother. Thank you so much for this simple and delicious recipe, I'm definitely adding it to my recipe box. 🙂

Can you substitute cocoa powder for the chocolate?

Hi Angela! You could try substituting with cocoa, but I'm not sure how that would affect the final results of the drink. It might also not have the same richness as using chocolate. Thanks for the question and let me know if you try it out!
