By now, you already know that I like to spend time in the kitchen. And I like trying out all sorts of different restaurants, locally in Hong Kong and wherever we travel. Another thing I like to do? I like to check out the local artisan-type coffee shops...the ones that might be off the beaten path. Cafe Revol is one of those coffee shops, serving great coffee in a relaxing atmosphere.
There are obviously plenty of Starbucks to be found in Hong Kong. Another chain is Hong Kong-based Pacific Coffee. Both are good if you want a familiar place to stop for a decent cup of coffee, no matter what neighborhood you may be in. If you can't think of anywhere else to go, Starbucks and Pacific Coffee are perfectly good go-to options.
However, there are plenty of stand-alone boutique coffee shops that may be harder to spot, but are worth seeking out. They don't have the mainstream visibility as the big guys, but they certainly have what it takes to compete with them for a good cup of coffee. Furthermore, they are often less crowded and can offer more personable service. And don't forget, it's good to support your local businesses!
I suggested Cafe Revol to my friend, Amy for a coffee date one recent morning. Cafe Revol's name is clear and obvious when you walk up, and while the shop front looks like cold, unfinished concrete, a wall of glass windows reveals a warm and inviting interior.
A very clever use of an espresso portafilter as a door handle leads you in...
...where the wonderful smell of coffee greets you. The staff are friendly and helpful, kindly bringing our coffees to us at our table while we relaxed and chatted.
Cafe Revol also offers breakfast and lunch options, but I was just there for the coffee. Amy ordered a simple Americano, which she liked so much, she ordered a second!
I ordered a Cafe Mocha which tasted and looked lovely and was the perfect beverage for a chilly January morning.
A sign in the coffee shop says that customers can find water under the dog...
Shop mascot? Frequent patron asleep in the corner? Not sure, but he (she?) adds a fun, soft element to the coffee shop.
Cafe Revol has everything you would want in a coffee shop. Good coffee in a clean and comfortable shop, complete with fun decor that makes it unique from the chain coffee shops. Cafe Revol is a hidden gem that is worth taking a detour to visit.

Loved that place. My Americano had a blend of chocolate which made it so yummy - that's why I ordered two!
Nice background music as well - really enjoyed the music from High School Musical 3!!!
