I started a blog - Four Days In Hong Kong - back in 2012. The blog documented our major life transition from California to Hong Kong. I am now sharing posts from Four Days In Hong so you can read along with our journey.
Here is the 2nd post from the blog. Follow along with our adventure as I had originally written for Four Days In Hong Kong. Enjoy the read and feel free to leave a comment below!
Four Days In Hong Kong - The Real Countdown Begins!
Original post August 13th, 2012
We're at less than 7 days to go! Yikes! We just got confirmation that our crate crossed the Pacific and arrived in Hong Kong and cleared customs and is now being stored for us until we arrive. Woohoo! (The kids will be so happy to be reunited with all their Lego!)
And when Shawn went to Hong Kong a couple of weeks ago (and subsequently arrived there in the middle of a typhoon...I didn't not know they had typhoons there in summer...another reason to return to California during summer months!), he was able to secure us a townhome in the development that we like. We will get the keys for it the day after we arrive in Kong next week and the crate will be delivered the day after that. Woohoo! It's all really coming together, although it seems like there's still so much to do on our end here still in California. There's packing, packing, and packing! Did I mention packing??
Then there's the whole thing of "shutting down" our house in California and going through the checklist for that. Thanks to some friends who I know were just trying to be helpful (but really, they just gave me more that I have to do!), I now have to make sure we cover our beds with cheap sheets to catch all the dust that will fall on them while we're gone, and I have to remember to prop the freezer door open so that mold doesn't grow inside, and I have to remember to turn off the gas and turn off all the water valves to each sink and toilet... AND we have to eat down all the remaining food in the kitchen or donate it or give it to friends.
Can someone remind me why we're doing this again? 🙂
